I have been arguing a point with a guy I work with. Is there any avenue for

re-enlistment if your discharge? code is an RE-4?
I am almost positive there isn't.
He is saying something about failure to adapt in the coastgaurd. All I'm trying to tell him is good luck. I am certain obtaining a wavier for anything is going to be difficult at best.

Your only hope, is to appeal the RE code. As far as I know, an RE4 from any service reads out as: Ineligible to enlist, no waivers considered/authorized.

You say nothing about the narrative reason for the RE4, but they are not given out lightly, except for retirement.

A couple years ago when the waivers were getting approved like crazy, I remember one guy with an RE4 from the Navy getting into the Guard. That is your only option. No other branch will take you no matter what and the Guard will only even consider a waiver for an RE4 from the Navy, Air Force or Marines. They would not consider an Army RE4 because you have to be a little worse to get an Army RE4. Right now, no RE4s will get in and there will be no waivers. If you just want to argue the point that it's possible, then yes, there is a SLIGHT possibility that involves a great deal of circumstancial evaluation and recruiting desperation.

It's technically possible to upgrade your code if you can prove that the code was given wrongly. Which would in turn likely allow you the again, technical possibility of re-enlisting. But the military probably still isn't going to want you.

They can be falsely given out but the Military will never acknowledge a mistake. Therefore you would be blackballed from military service.

The thing to remember is the reason you hated the service or the reason they hated you will still be there.

Even if you could get back in that doesn't mean you would do well enough that after your four year hitch they would give you an RE code high enough so you could reenlist again. Then you would be in the same spot again looking for a better job or future.

Your best bet is taking joy in what you do and saving money and working toward a civilian future.
