I suffer from allergies. Not like the normal allergy symptoms people get. I might sneeze a little more or have more congestion or my eyes my feel gunky like I have something in them. But as far as the tv commercial type of allergies with sneezing, watery eyes and a nose like a spigot, no. Most of the time the only symptom my allergies are acting up is I feel spacey like I downed a glass of wine really fast and sometimes I have a headache on the top of my head with maybe some increased sneezing and mild/moderate congestion.

My issue of late is something that is happening when I'm trying to go to sleep at night. And the only reason I'm suspecting rhinitis is because the last time this happened severely and I went to urgent care was at the tail end of a severe head cold. AND the only time I didn't have the sensation I will describe, was one night when I took 2 benadryl to help me sleep.

At night as I'm trying to fall asleep, I get this swimming head feeling. Almost like maybe dizzy but I don't know I'm dizzy because my eyes are closed and the room is dark - so I have no frame of reference. The sensation seems to originate behind the bridge of my nose, kind of between my eyes inside my head. So I began wondering if I am having issues with allergic or even non-allergic rhinitis (although ragweed has been awful this late summer and fall, my nemesis) could my sinuses or ears or eustation tubes be changing pressure while I'm laying down causing a kind of dizziness?

Today I felt drunk again so popped a couple pseudafed and the drunk head feeling goes away like always. Like the tissues in all of my sinuses are swollen but not really producing mucus, just swollen and messing with the pressure inside of my head. Occasionally I can get vertigo with my rhinitis but nothing awful.

What do you all think? I'm thinking of making and ENT appt but with this being so bizarre and not doctor *text book* I have a feeling the doctor will totally dismiss it. That's why I need to see if real people out there have any of these issues.

Thanks!!

I don't have the same problems as you but wanted to share with you some of mine.

I do have allergies and take medication daily. During the spring and fall I need to take additional medication due to the trees and ragweed. Inspite of my allergies being somewhat controlled I do find that there are some nights (no matter what time of the year it is) that my allergies get worse right when go to bed. I start to sneeze alot and have a runny nose only when I first go to bed. After a couple days I'm back to normal.

I have also recently had problems with dizziness. I was diagnosed with viral labyrinthitis. I continued to have problems with the dizziness and found that my B12 and folic acid levels where low. I also had some rhinitis. Now about 9 weeks later if feel very little dizzines.

I do think you could be right that when you lay down something changes in your sinuses, etc. Think about having a cold and you are all stuffed up. You lay down but can't breath so you lay with your head higher so everything drains. Your doctor may dismiss what is going on but make sure that list all your smptoms and try not to make light of them.

Good luck and let us know how things turn out.

Thanks bugs12. I wish my allergies exhibited the classic symptoms. I once worked in a 4 story building with a huge atrium in the center. It was filled with trees, shrubs and allergens! I didn't sneeze or have a runny nose, I was dizzy, I had swollen glanRAB, my neck ached, I was fatigued and had minor congestion. I went to doctor after doctor and they would keep telling me those symptoms were not caused by allergies. I was scared out of my wits that I had some terrible disease. I ended up going to work for another company and the symptoms disappeared.

So I tend to forget about unusual things happening to me health wise that could be caused by my allergies. I hate winter, but if it means getting rid of allergies, I'll take the compromise.

I had all of this and it DEFINITELY is caused by allergies. Allergies can throw your whole system off. Look up bppv on the Internet. I had it so badly, I had to grab a rail in my house when I got out of bed. After up for a while, I was fine, but when I lay down again, the same thing happened. It has to do with the inner ear. If that is off balance, it can definitely effect you.
