I have an old 1991 Chevy S-10 Pick-up Truck.?

I am not a mechanic by any means and I need some advice. Folks are telling me I need a new clutch and a good friend who is alittle mechanical is tell me to check the slav cylinder. What is a slav cylinder and is it on the outside of the manual transmission? Any idea on how much this part costs? Any help would be really gretly appreciated. Like the song says" I love my truck" Thanks.
 
you may need to change master and slave cylinder do not just change one change both then again it maybe the clutch
 
The slave cylinder looks somewhat like a tiny brake cylinder, and would be mounter near the bell housing. It's purpose is to move the lever/rod that engages/releases the throw out bearing. It replaces a lot of mechanical linkage that was used in older designs. Sometimes air will get in the system and needs to be bled off, and sometimes the fluid just gets low. They aren't that expensive. Ballpark guess would be about $20. On a few models it may be mounted inside the bell housing.
