My '86 Ram 150 (318 cu in) went over 288,000 miles before I sold it last year. The automatic transmission was replaced at 180,000. The timing gears (nylon? for noise reduction, they said) went out at 220,000. I replaced them with steel gears. I replaced the alternator about every 50,000. After I replaced the original U-joints at 30,000 (junk), the second set went to 150,000, and the third set were still good at 288,000. At 250,000 the valve-lifter rods were making lots of noise, so I replaced them. At 288,000 the engine was losing compression and if I had kept it I would have rebuilt it. I really loved that van.
