i wasnt told which ones or nothing, but about how much is it to reconstruct them? I have a mechanic that is willing to do both for $400, is that a good deal? any experiences are greatly appreciated.

You'll have 2 gaskets. $400 to replace both head gaskets is definitely a very fair price. You might want to make sure if this is one or both gaskets. Even replacing 1 gasket for $400 is really not a bad deal. Might get a second opinion on your problem though.
