Yeah, I think it's fine. It's usually natural for the boy to be a little older than the girl. I don't think it's that big of an age gap especially since most girls mature slightly quicker than boys do.
 
Okay so I have a story about this. I was watching this tv show called Summer Heights High about an australian school. And, this one girl Ja'Mie who is year 11 dates this boy named Sebastian in year 7 but they break up because she thinks that he's cheating on her even though he is like 11.

First of all I'm going to infer from the word 'mates' you're from Aussie territory, also you need to understand and know how to compose a complete question that makes sense because yours doesn't, and yes I guess it's okay but most likely it wont work out anyway. Why don't you two just hang out a little then increase the intensity later like when your 14 and he's 16.
 
Your less than 2 years apart I don't see a reason why not if you both like each other. Though you might have some problems with the parents but just show them your not like other guys and all you care is about sex.
