As above remember to do your weekly water changes of 15-20%, you will have to change your filter medium every so often however do not change it all at once you need the bacteria in your original filter.
depending on the size of your tank butterfly plecs (hill stream loaches) are fantastic algae eaters, or if you want something larger giggiceps.
 
it could be algae, there are some tablets you can buy that i use that assist in making lovely clear water. It aquapac clear water conditioning blocks, they are cheap and you get your moneys worth! great in making crystal clear water!
you should try it!!!
 
Sounds like algae. I agree with one of the other guys that answered, reduce the amount of light on the tank, be it a flourescent light you are using, or if sunlight is hitting the tank (incandescent lights wouldn't cause much if any algae to grow). You can also purchase algae remover at a lot of pet stores, it kills shrimp though.
