I have a toyota 4 runner(95) and I need to change my flywheel. Help!!?

Recently my flywheel went out in my truck. I was stopped and when I went to turn the motor would only rev up. I put it in park and re-shifted down into drive. (No it is not a stick. I have an extra power button. No 4 wheel drive.) The motor continued to rev up. I turned the truck of and It wouldn't crank again the starter would turn. The person who looked at it for me said the starter would engage but the flywheel would not turn to start the motor. Is this Correct anyone?? It has been making noises. A tick like a grasshopper in the engine, when the flywheel went out it sounded different. When the problem started sometimes it did it when I stopped. It went away when I gave it gas. When in idle you could hear the noise. Sometimes when i got my speed up past 45 the noise would stop. Is this a noise from the flywheel or do I have other problems? All of my gauges are reading correctly. It has never run hot. I have never had any problems other than the brakes and ujoints. Any Ideas??
