I have a thing against poetry? Apparently it's offensive?

Okay, so I HATE poetry. I don't read nor do I write it. I can't write poetically at all. I am a pretty good story writer, but not a poet. I said something about hating poetry the other day and my friends were like, "Hey! I write poetry!" I don't hate THEIR poetry, because it's relevant and stuff. but I can't stand stuff like Emily Dickinson or such. It just doesn't make any sense.
So my question is, would you be offended if I told you I hated poetry, and how can I get over my HATRED of poetry?

dont beat yourself up. alot of people hate poetry. but if i were you i wouldent tell too many people because you never know who will take offense

I would take yu out and buy youa beer

I hate poetry. Poetry sucks. I hate it so much, I even wrote a poem called "Poetry Sucks!"

I haven't gotten over it, but what I do is at every opportunity show that anyone can write poetry and that "great poetry" is a contradiction in terms

PS Poetry DOES suck

Here is a link to a more modern poet, Lawrence Ferlinghetti.

The poem is called "I am Waiting." If you don't like it, there is no hope for your poetic future.
