i have a sprint rant it was stolen what can i do about it?

it was stolen and my mom located it 0.6 miles away from my house on sprint family locate and we called sprint they told me to look for my old upstage but can i use my friends rumor instead cause we both had the rant but mine been gone for 2 weeks and who ever had took used it and my mom should of called the police because the phone was close to this college and then the largo police station is 2 miles from where i lived couldn't the police go in there and check every ones phone
