I have a sharp pain in my thigh what can I do?

For about five days now I have had a stabbing pain in my right thigh,it flares up when I put weight on it it started out as not being constant but now it throbs even while sitting, The pain is mostly above my knee and also throbs in my lower back near my waist a little above my buttock,Sometimes while I am walking it flares and my whole leg shakes nearly knocking me on my butt. I do not have any discoloration and there is no pain when I flex my lower leg or flex it upwards but this is really hurting and sometimes I have to almost drag my right leg to lessen the pain,it does throb while I am laying down and I still feel the flare ups,I did not have any type of sports injury nor did I fall on my knee is there anything I can do about this or will it eventually go away on it's own? I have had deep vein thrombosis before but the symptoms did not feel quite like this and I am afraid to even consider that again because I have been off blood thinning meds for nine years and have no desire what-so-ever to take them again!!
