I have a question with the compatability of the PS1 on the PS2, can anyone answer it?

I know that the PS2 can play PS1 games but I heard somewhere that in order to save the PS1 games that you play on the PS2 you cannot save them with a PS2 memory card, you have top save them with a PS1 memory card. Is it true or can you save a PS1 game when you use a PS2 with a PS2 memory card?
 
Yes you will need a ps1 card, when you play a ps1 game on ps2 it wont even recognize the ps2 card, i had the same situation when i bought metal gear solid for ps1 and played it on ps2
 
I HAVE BOTH SYSTEMS BOTH VERY GOOD SYSTEMS BUT YOU NEED A PS1 MEMORY CARD TO SAVE PS1 GAMES ON THE PS2!! THAT'S THE REASON Y I BOUGHT XBOX 360 AND FOR SOME OTHER REASONS WITH THE PLAYSTATIONS!!
