I have a question about the TV show LOST?

Okay I'm ONLY on season 5 and I just finished episode 9 so PLEASE NO SPOILERS! Now, I've been confused since the season 4 finale. The "Oceanic Six" left the island in early 2005. They keep showing 3 years later "flash forwards" for the six but Sawyer, Juliet, etc. are trapped in the 70's. Now is ANYTHING taking place in 2005? I know Ben, Sun, and Frank crashed in a different time period but that's still the 3 years later thing so like 2008ish so is anything taking place in the "normal" time like it's supposed to be or did the time change kind of skip those 3 years. I'm SO confused! Please, I BEG of you, NO SPOILERS! Just help. Thank you(:
Oh and where the hell did Locke go? Or does that get answered later..he kind of disappeared after the episode where he "hung" himself (Ben really killed him).
 
Okay so I think that you are wrong about the part when they are in 2008

sorry but they are in 2005, so everything you are watching is in 2005 (ben sun etc)
