I have a problem with my a/c compressor, on a 1997 Ford Ranger?

It starts up for a second then it stops. The filled it with R-134a and it is full. I was wondering if it is a switch or something/

Sounds like the unit needs replacing. You might try running it with a higher fuse in it's fuse holder just to see if it will run longer with higher amps drawn, but I wouldn't do that long term...just to check out the circuitry and compressor smoothness.

WHAT MAKES YOU THINK ITS FULL? THE IS A LOW PRESSURE SWITCH INSTALLED THAT TRIPS THE COMPRESSOR OUT WHEN THE PRESSURE GETS TOO LOW ON THE LOW SIDE OF THE SYSTEM. YOU NEED TO HAVE A GUAGE PUT ON IT TO CHECK TO SEE HOW FAR THE GAUGE DROPS WHEN RUNNING TO KNOW WHATS WRONG. MY GUESS STILL LOW ON FREON
