well if it is just a drainage ditch that hold water don't bother because they will all die.
If it is being feed from a water source that produces oxygen in the water you can put just about any type of small fish in it.
to sustain life in the pond it must have an oxygen source ( this can be obtained by putting a pump and or filter
it must a section that is below the freeze line for your area so the fish can survive the cold months. and it must have some sort of food supply unless you will be feeding them on a regular basis
