I've had Wilbur for almost 2 years now, but I'm afraid of my kids getting the flu from him.

I'm thinking of putting him to sleep. Do you think I should do it, or should I just keep my kids away from him from now on?

The only way your pig has the swine flu is if he's been in contact with the disease the same as you. With the animal being a pet you know where it's been and who's touched it. If it makes you feel better keep the kids away from the pig til the scare is over.

Before you make any rash decisions to put wilbur down,PLEASE, CONSAULT,your vet,and it wouldnt hurt to talk to your local doctor. And it also depends on what part of the world you live in.

Pigs are unclean. I don't eat pork and I sure wouldn't have a pig for a PET!!!
You can do what you feel is best of course, but God told the children of Israel to stay away from them for their own good. We are finding that out now!
My vote is to put him down.

Take him to the vet and get him tested if you are worried. No since in putting him down if he don't even have it. Also after getting him tested keep him away from sick people. I am sure he is fine though.

no because if he is a house pet then he comes in contact with the same things as you and your children, so if you kill him you will just cause yourself pain

Even though it contains elements of swine flu, and its quite probable it originated in pigs, you cant catch it from them.

Thanks
Bill

Lol no, unless you live in mexico, if you dont live in mexico then I dont think he could get it unless someone infected gave it to him, last time i checked the flu isnt air borne.
