i have a nokia classic 6030i and it says my memory card is not formatted, what do i do?

i have never put a new memory card in, (it's the one that came with the phone) and i don't want to delete everything on it but it says to format it you have to delete everything on it!!?? i just turned it on and i had no photos, videos, music or anything else in the memory card! please help!! xx
