I have a flat battery in my Ford Fiesta - lights/radio work but nothing else?

I am house sitting for someone for the next few months and I also said i'd start the owner's car once on a while. However, over the festive break I was away for 4 weeks and upon my return I discovered the battery to be flat (well just radio etc. working).

I know almost nothing about cars, but it seems quite bad if the battery doesn't have enough amperes (?) to start the engine after only 4 weeks. What's my next step (bearing in mind i'm not insured to drive it). Charge it or buy new battery? Many thanks!
 
Have a friend come over and give it a jump. Then, leave the car running for a while, and this should charge it up.

Also, look at the terminals on the battery and make sure there isn't corrosion. I had two batteries go bad in my truck. One was due to corrosion and the other just went bad.
If its a bad battery, then it will need to be replaced. Since you can't drive it, then you are stuck just trying to start it and having it jumped once a week or so until the owner comes back to get a new battery.
 
If you know how to hook up and turn on a trickle battery charger, do it. If not, DO NOT attempt anything! There is always the chance of burning down the house or garage, or both, with an uneducated person trying to do it! I'd let it sit. If the battery is that bad, it can't be hurt!
