I have a few questions about art portfolios for college?

I'm applying to a few art colleges, and I've got a few questions.

- How do they feel about sketches?

- What if I include a sketch and the finished project?

- If I draw something from a photo (Not tracing, just trying to eyeball it), should I include the photo? Or should I include a URL? Or should I just say it was referenced?

- I don't have a scanner to scan anything I draw on paper, but I have a tablet I use for most of my drawing. Would art drawn on the computer (with a tablet) be acceptable for non-animated works? I'd say my drawing-on-paper and drawing-with-a-tablet skills are about the same, fyi. I prefer computer anyway, can't smudge anything or run out of space on the page. :)

- I'm going to try to major in cartooning and animation. Would it help if I experiment with cartoon styles? (Sometimes I like to doodle in styles from shows/movies, like Happy Feet, Dragon Booster... I don't do it so well that it seems like I trace, I try to mix my main style with the other style. And I don't do it for profit or anything, I just do it for fun or for fan art :).)

- Any tips for me? :) Besides show variety, draw from life, quality over quantity, show don't tell...

And PLEASE don't tell me to go check the schools' websites, because I've looked, and they don't have answers for these kinds of questions. :(
