sure if he wants to...? ...what do you think? This is a letter I received from him today...
Hi <my name>:
How are you doing? I read in your information that you are getting close to graduating. How close are you?
I am curious about your non-profit. How does it work?
I got a kick out of the boycotting the Unfair Treatment of Restaurant Managers and Employees. I believe that you left <restaurant name>. Is that correct. From your boycotting sentence, I believe that you have had some interesting experiences.
During the week I am performing the role of COO for a religious non-profit. On the weekends I am still involved in the restaurant industry.
Most of the restaurant industry has some opportunites to improve along the lines of increasing the respect for and the dignity and self esteem of the people working in the restaurants. It is a pretty demanding work setting.
I have so much experience in the industry, I would like to be able to help humanize the restaurant work environment. In doing so, that would also mean that key results would also have to increase so that the restaurants could stay in business and people could have jobs. It is my experience that many restaurant managers do not get the training and coaching to deal effectively with the demands that inherent in the business. Many of them do not know where to go to get some help. Everything seems to be in the moment, (now, now, now) one fire-fighting situation after another. Many managers burn out. A lot of them burn out before they are replaced or quit and until that happens because they are burned out, a lot of employees and customers suffer. Too bad. I think it could be better.
I am working on developing content for a website. The purpose of the website is to provide informational content, skills, and tools for leaders. Of course, as we know, everyone from time to time has to play a leadership role depending on the situation. Leadership isn't defined by position authority. Then of course there is self-leadership which is the foundation for leading others effectively.
I hope to hear from you and learn more about how you are doing.
Sincerely,
<his name>
