i have a buick and its valve ticking?

hey people i have a 1993 buick 3.8 with valve ticking u can hear it under the valve covers on one side like if u were standing in front of the hood it will be to ure far left hand side and u can hear it its not that loud u can also hear it in the intake maiford on the far left but when i accelerate u cant hear it really is that just normal for old cars?my mechanic told me yes cause its an old car and it will do that bt im just making sure the valves aren't bent or anything i and he checked that out and it only come from the front Valve cover far left side and as well as far left of the manifold and i mean the car acts normal and all that he told me if u don't like the noise u can adjust them and please no dume or stupid answers and mechanics only!
i mean manifold not maniford lol
 
he's right, over time the valve guides and valve springs wear out and, as he said you can adjust them and it will usually quiet them possibly silence them
 
this is very common on older cars that use push rods. this sound often comes from not the valves themselves but from the lifters in the engine. the lifters over time will leak and not pump up to provide proper lift. the only way to resolve this is an over haul of the engine. you can still get many miles out of this engine, with out any problems.
