I have a brand new 2009 Mazda 3 and I smell anti-freeze often. Should I be worried

but then again its probably just the paint on the radiator or something like that a new car will have all kinds of smells as it is broke in if you think something is wrong with it take back to the dealer i am sure they will gladly look it over and if your water temp (if you have one) does not go all the way into the red or does rise above about 220 degrees i say you are fine

With newer cars there is a coating on the catalytic converters that is used to help prevent rust. Sometimes this coating will burn off especially if you are hot rodding the car and will smell awkward(usually smells more like a transmission burning then anti-freeze). If the smell concerns you stop by the dealer and let them look at it for peace of mind.

No this is not normal this means that you have a leak some where in the system. I recommend you take it back to the dealer ASAP.Plus antifreeze is very poisonous to animals & humans smelling antifreeze over a long period of time can cause cancer it`s a carcinogent

Yes you should be worried. When it is cold before you start it you should check the radiator and see if it is full. Also check the passenger side floorboard to see if it is wet.

The heater core can sometimes leak. They are not all located inside the cabin but a lot of the times when they leak, it is on the passenger floorboard and would smell strong. if this is the case you will need a new heater core

It could also be leaking on the engine compartment and coming in through the ventilation. if this is the case it is probably a hose but could be the water pump or radiator

All of this should be covered under warranty

Take it to the dealer right away since the car is still under warranty. There could be a radiator hose leak or other. You certainly don't want to get stuck somewhere if something else goes wrong. Be proactive. I once bought a new Mazda years ago, go on the freeway, had a flat and found they had put a tube in the tubeless tire! Clearly told me they were underhanded. It was the worst car and it was in their shop more than I drove it. I was glad to unload the lemon. I even wrote to Mazda headquarters and got zero customer service. I would never buy one again.

Maybe it's not antifreeze, go have someone look at it to make sure everything is ok. If it's brand new go back to the dealership and see if anyone can check it out.

If you have steam coming into your car then its your heater core. if its comming from the engine(the smell i mean) its gonna be a radiator or hose leak. Take it to the dealership and they will fix the problem.

This is not normal it sounds like your heater core is bad if its under waranty take it back to the dealership and have them take a look at it
