I have a beautiful robinia tree in the back garden two of the main branches...

...have not produced leaves .? Any ideas why, it is a mature tree without any previous problems .So sad to see it in this state
 
I have had the exact same problem with mine this year.
It usually produces loads of leaves, but this year I only have a couple of branches that have done anything, & the rest have died.
I was putting it down to 'getting too big' for the giant tub it's in, but now I'll see what answers you get!
