everyone is welcome :-))? During our amateur street ball games, one player consistently does the following, when taking a shot from field or while doing a lay-up, he shots with right hand and at the same time, with his free left hand moves other player's hand while being blocked. Is this a fault, or is his defense legal? I know players have the right to protect themselves from blocks, but he doesn't position his hand firmly to prevent the block, but actually moves away other players hand with his elbow, or hand. Where is the line from this being a legal or illegal defense? Objectivity, please!

Yup, Floyd is correct, unquestionably an offensive foul. You can kind of use your body to shield away the defender while you're in the air, but you can not use your off-hand (i.e. non-shooting hand) to push off against the defender while you go up for your shot.
