I have a AF-S Nikkor 55-200mm 1:4-5.6G ED Lens. What kind of photos can I take

better with this kind of lens? I mean: up-close photos or photos in a certain distance?
 
you can take almost any kind of photos with this lens..it is up to you....

if you want something more specific....portraits ...this lens makes really nice portraits!

some might tell you sports....and it can take sports shots...but it is limited compared with the nikon telephoto lenses with and aperture of f2.8 or lower.
maybe if you boost the iso to 800 or 1600..i say you will get "the shot" once out of maybe every 4 or 3

but i have used this lens for portraits with great results
i say put the camera at aperture priority
set the aperture to f4 or f8 ...depending on the lighting and background
set the camera to about 105mm
and just move around your subject until you find the spot where you are getting the shots that you want.

it is really a nice lens....especially for being so inexpensive
and it is really really REALLY light compared to 70-200 f2.8
