...Lucas stop leak? The car has 197,000 miles and I'm on a tight budget. My trusted auto mechanic tells me I need a power steering rack. How long can I continue to try and fill the reservoir with fluid before the pump or rack fails? Is there any danger in continuing to fill the reservoir with fluid?
 
Yah, over time you will eat through the rack and pinion, continually putting in fluid just keeps it lubricated since you're obviously leaking, consider replacing it as the repairs can add up constantly buying fluid.
