I have a 95 ford ranger with a fuel sending problem?

My gas gauge read empty for 4 years and I put a new unit in it. Everything was fine for about a month and then it read full all the time. I put another new unit in it and it worked for a week and now it reads way past full. I took the bed off to get to it so no wires were messed with. Got the parts from NAPA so they should be good. Any insights? The truck runs fine except for the fact I can't tell how much gas is in it.
