I have a 93 Ford Explorer, when I press the 4x4 button nothing happens what

would cause that? When I bought the truck. I was the told the 4x4 wasnt bad just was "unhooked". When I press the button nothing happens, no noises, nothing. I replaced the switch and the 4x4 computer with no luck. What would cause this to happen?
 
Not sure what unhooked means. could be a seal in your linkage case failed. leaked hydraulic fluid/ lost pressure. the motor to hook up the gears wont overcome the friction. could be a lot of things. read the manual or take it in.
 
i would first check the 4x4 motor to see if its good and if its not good get a new one. and if it still don't work check all ur wiring and maked sure your hubs are working
 
I had a 94 Jeep Wrangler that didn't shift into 4X4 after some service. It turned out that they knocked off a vacuum hose. I'm sure they don't have the same system, but that's the best I can tell you.
