I have a 81 Kawasaki KZ 750 that has no spark?

I just bought a 81 kz 750 cheap that has no spark... I haven't dug to deep yet trouble shooting but both coils have 12 volts getting to them with the key on. Both coils don't spark because I turned it over and checked each wire for spark. I checked the fuses and there all good.. Any one have any ideas or anything that is notorious for this model bike? The guy said it ran in the spring then stopped and he didn't want to fix it. Let me know what you think. Im pretty handy with electrical but just never had a spark issue before.. Any ideas are appreciated... Thanks
