I have a 2k, Buick, Lasbre. How can I tell if the catalitic converter is going out?

I hear a rattling noise down there.

it will start to smell really bad, and you car wont run as well and in some cases it can catch flame.

If that were to go out the car is new enough to where it would throw on a check engine light. no real way to tell when it is going to go out.

If it's running OK, and the Check Engine Light isn't on, then it's probably not the Catalytic Converter.More than likely, it's just a metal Heat Shield, or some other Body Part that's come loose under the Car.You'll probably have to put the Car up on a Vehicle Lift to locate it, but it's probably not anything serious.More of an annoyance.Hope this helps !

If you get a rotten egg smell the catalytic converter is gone.
The rattling noise is more likely the muffler coming loose.
