i have a 29 gallon fish tank?

and want to convert it to a turtle tank.would red ear slider turtle be good?ill only have 1.can u gus tell me how to get this started and were to buy one?they dont sell it at my lfs and not at petco either.maybe online??need help and advice from people that know about semi aquatic turtles.thanks
 
i guess you're obvilious to the turtle rule.- "10 gallons per inch of the shell"

only a turtle that is 3 inches could possibly live in such a tiny tank.

red eared sliders grow to 12 inches, therefore they need 120 gallons

males 5 - 8 inches
females 10-12 inches

sliders, cooters, and painters all require at least a 75 gallon for one turtle

the smallest species are muds, maps, and musks, they grow between 4-7 inches, so even the smallest turtle out there needs at least a 40 gallon tank as an adult.


there is no possible way you can house any aquatic turtle, or land turtle in a 29 gallon tank. You just can't do it. You need at least a 50 gallon tank.

i agree with the first answerer, a pair of leopard geckos can happily live in a 29 gallon.
 
you can get a baby red ear slider turtle, it will love the tank , but when it gets bigger you need to upgrade, you will need a heat lamp for it, a docking ramp, a good filter, substrate(gravel), decorations( make the tank look nice), feeder fish(guppies, goldfish, etc), commercial turtle food, crickets, wax worms, super worms. you can but the baby red ear slider from turtlesale.com ( i would buy two because it will be happy. there are more baby turtles on the site if you don't want that baby turtle). you can also but the supplies from there if you like.
 
RES grow to 12" long, so don't use a 29gal tank. I'd get a leopard gecko or two. One can live in a 10 gal tank its whole life!!!
