to which I thought was the? muffler, when I took it to the dealership they stated it would cost me 800.00 Dollars to get it fixed. I was told by a friend that it is the Catalytic Converter getting loose? But I looked under my truck and couldn't find a Cat Converter? Where is it and where could the noise be coming from I take very good care of my truck don't drive it hard it has all of its maintenance done at the dealership so what could it be? I thought it was the muffler at to which it is not, I look underneath and hear it when it drives and it is much more closer to the engine? Can anyone help? As well when I back up in reverse it makes the most noise as well, when I'm stopped at a light it sounds like the muffler rattling and nothing else, what do I do?

Your cat is part of your muffler. It shouldn't cost that much to fix it it might have a leak as many muffler are clamped rather than welded. You cat is a smaller version that looks like a muffler and has heat sheilds attached to it. Mine is supposed to be under the cab. Sometime its the heat sheild under the vehicle that loosens tight this well also. its often a piece of aluminum or stainless above the cat.
good luck

It's possible the heat shield on the cat has come loose or the insides of the cat a breaking up. If you follow the exhaust from the motor toward the back, the first thing mounted on the exhaust pipe is the cat, the next thing is the muffler.

Take it to a different dealer and tell them that a catalytic converter has an 8 year/80,000 mile warranty. Then you should report the dealer that tried to charge you to repair it.
