I have a 2006 Ford Ranger and the 4x4 won't engage. Lights don't work and no noise when

I flip the switch.? It was working fine a few days ago and then I think I tried to engage the 4x4 when the tires were slipping a little bit. Since then, It hasn't worked. Anybody know what might be going on here?
