The car is still at the dealership, they want $1200 to complete the diagnosis of the problem. The car is drivable, but hesitates while shifting gears and is starting to make noise while accelerating. I'd like to trade it without another dealership realizing the problem, but how do I make the noise less noticable/stop? and the hesitation possibly decrease while the dealership test drives the car? Also, does anyone know how quickly Carfax reports "service" details in their reports?

what you are asking is how to scam a dealer. This is not good. I would get the hell away from the dealer and call various transmission shops for a free estimate to fix. $1,200 for a diagnosis is a scam in itself.

Go to autozone and get some "stop slip" or something like that and add it to the tranny fluid. Read the directions first of course.
