I have a 2004 ford ranger 4.0 auto tranny . shifts hard hesitates going in and

out of drive and reverse.? od light flashes but tranny fluid does not smell burn"t . Has anyone had this problem and if so what did they do??

that sounds like a problem i had once with a ford contour. check the fluid level first. but it could be whats called a selector lever sensor. my od light flashed too. good idea would be to get the computer scannned for codes at an autozone or advance autoparts store. they do it for free. hope this helps.

Well, there was a factory recall for a trans fluid addative from FORD. It has since expired,, but you can still get it done at any dealership.
