i have a 2004 Ford F150 and the power steering seems to have totally gone?

any suggestions to check? Pump? have a 2004 F150 (new style) and the steering has totally gone. Seems to be manual steering instead of power steering. I have checked for leaks and found none. I think even though it hasn't leaked it could be the pump? anyone else have this issue?
