i have 2002 yamaha yz250, was running ok up until today, it just died in 3rd gear, now wont start, doesnt sound the same when u kick start it, might be just my imagination but kick start doesnt feel right. any ideas .
Might be time for a top end rebuild (cylinder, piston & rings).
2 stroke engines require rebuilds quite often - MX bikes every 2 years max.
Check the cylinder compression or make a visual inspection.
Remove the exhaust pipe and look into the exhaust port.
If you see any scoring on the piston and cylinder wall, or discoloration
below the rings - rebuild the top end.
