I have a 2000 Toyota Celica 1.8-litre 4cyl, 140bhp, Which i now making a noise

from the cambelt/camshaft area.? Some say it could be the Tentioner or the Whole Camshaft..
It doesnt have a belt, its a chain.
Its a Chain not a Belt, the noise gets worse with higher revs, Could it be the actual Cam Shaft..?
 
If it's a rattling or clattering noise, it may have worn cam chain guides, or the tensioner may have allowed the chain to get slack. You may get a better idea by removing the rocker cover & looking down the cam chain slot.
It could also be something far simpler like alternator bearings.

it could be timing belt idler or tensioner, let a mechanic check your timing belt...

don't be scared the tensioner is $30~40, it could be the water pump noisy,,, however better be safe than sorry... good luck mate.
