I have a 2000 chevy impala and my heat does not work. My temp gauge fluctuates up...

...and down. any ideas? The temp gauge will rise and fall the entire time that i am driving the car. It never runs hot, but it will rise and fall. When it reaches the peak and starts to fall the heat will work until it drops to its lowest point, then it just blows hot air again.
 
1) check engine coolant level. 2) read owner's manual. 3) thermostat is sticking... replace. 4) change coolant every 2 years. 5) enjoy less car problems.
