i have a 1998 nissan maxima with a bose sound system in it.?

i need to replace the stereo console thing (cd player radio etc.) because my volume button completely broke.
i heard i had to get the entire system ripped out of my car including wires is this true or can i just get a new face plate type thing and fix it that way?
 
this depends on if your car has a stock amp more than likely it does wich means if you replace the stereo you will either have to replace or remove the stock amp wich can be very pricey
cuase that would have to include a stereo that has 8 to 10 different output channels or find a good reasonable deck and also an amp that has 8 channel out put on it
if you are trying to keep your bose speakers working great then you can iether go the the dealership to get that problem fixed
or buy a good stereo deck and have it proffesianal installed so the answer to your question is yes you can just buy a stereo deck but your speakers will never sound the same again
