...self? now its sounding like its also before the muffler what could it be and im also lagging in power ever since this started but then sometimes it goes away and no popping and drives fine
the popping is inside the muffler
 
The muffler has baffles inside. From your description, it sounds like one of them has come loose. It may be restricting your exhaust causing power loss.
