I have a 1998 Chevy Lumina And When I Have It In Drive And Am Not Driving The...

sounds to me you have a cooling fan issue .

or a thermostat sticking a little.

Or a water pump showing signs of internal pump blade wear.

Most likely a fan problem though.

Check the fuse first , relay second (you can swap them out with the others) and last the fan motor itself.

when it overheats like that .........get out and check your fan and see if it is running as it should be .

Sometimes turning on the A/C will force both fans to run even if it is not hot enough to require the operation of the engine fan.

Remember .......when driving down the road.......the fan dose pretty much nothing..........because the air is being shoved through the front end anyway

The fan is what sucks the air through the radiator when sitting still
