i have a 1997 ford thunder bird and how can i tell if i need a transmisson fluid change?

I have a 19967 ford thunder bird. when i took it into the shop they told me that i needed a transmission flush. the fluid is still pink and smell a little burnt. will it be bad if i got the fluid changed? i have no idea when it was last changed or even if it was. also i read online that it could be bad if i changed it. the car runs fine, the transmission is a little slow nothing to noticeable when it shifts just like a used transmission thats worn. please help me i dont know what to do. thanks,

If it smelled a little burnt it probably needs a fluid and filter change(not a flush). The flush is just an add on they try to have you do at the oil change place. If you decide to do it, either do it yourself or have a shop(not the oil change place) do it.
