i have a 1997 dodge ram 1500 with the 318 and i want to know about exhaust work on them?

my 1997 dodge ram right now has glasspacks on it it has a nice tone on the hwy but im looking for some headers what do you all think about shorty headers how much power would i gain from them and how loud would it be with them also and im going to be doing the work my self putting them on are they hard or easy to put on
