well it is a mitsubishi motor... And mitsubishi and chrysler share a lot of stuff... I know you can shove one in a stealth... And you can fit a V6 in an Avenger. So I'd have to say yeah it'll fit just fine and all but why? and you have to use a different transmission because you don't have an AWD car... I'm just trying to figure out why this engine? or better yet why this car? The 97 Avenger wasn't the greatest looking car and it was FWD. Why not just spend the 3000-4000 bucks that the engine would cost you and just go buy something with some more power and a better look?
If you are really going to do an engine swap and there is no changing your mind, then I'd just get a 3.3L or a 3.8L out of a caravan and shove that in your car. It'll match right up to your stock transmission, and all you'd have to do is replace the motor mount that is on the firewall side and put in the new PCM, ECU, and do the wiring. The 3.3L makes for good forced induction when coupled against a pari of 40mm turbos and the 3.8L has some great potential if you want some high revving naturally asperated horsepower. Just drop the cradle when you do the work, it's easier to do the motor mounts that way. And you can get a better reach for everything if you aren't shoved inside that cramped space.
