I have a 1995 Jeep Cherokee Problem Can you help?

I will be driving 10-15 minutes and the temperature Gage will be at 260 then my vehicle will stall and freeze until it cools down, then I will start it and it happens again. I looked under the hood and under the valve cover will be smoking when the jeep stalls and freezes. I dont think its the water pump otherwise the water would be gushing from the radiator.
Does any one know the problem and how much will it cost to fix?
 
260 DEGREES?! Have you tried a thermostat? If you have ran it that hot, you may have done some major damage already. I would try putting a thermostat in it first and see what it does. If you have done ant damage, it should show itself shortly after you start it to refill the cooling system.
