Sounds like you may have a fuel leak. There is another odd possibility here. A remote starter problem. If you have one someone in your area may have the same code and actually be starting your car. Most of these are designed to turn off after twenty minutes to forty-five minutes if you don't get in and drive. So let's say you have a neighbor that works third shift. They go out and start their car (and yours) with the remote. They leave for work and your car sits there running for 20 to 40 mins. Your in the house and have no idea your car is using gas.This is rare but it does happen. I would first start by getting an engine diagnostics scan. Just because the check engine light is not on does not mean all is well.
