...gross polluter? i attempted to have a different smog & repair shop do a diagnostic test, so i could pinpoint and make the neccessary repairs myself. the mechanic told me not to bother. he said if it is "previously recognized as a gross polluter" in the smog stations computer, it is more than likely it is the catylitic coverter. can a universal or a salvaged cat be used to pass? when i looked up a universal cat at Auto Zone it said they aren't legal in california. do they do "visual" inspections too? and what is a CARB approved aftermarket cat all about? thanks.
