i have a 1990 lincoln town car i want to know if i could change the rear tail light bar with one from a 94?

i wanted to change the rear long red tail light piece with one from a newer model. the 3piece sectional one. i wantd to take the red out and make them clear.....i also wanted to know if any one on here has ever taken the red out of the tail lights and kept them clear, if so how did you do it safely?
