If it is a GM engine. The only difference is the exhaust and intake manifold. I have a 181? 4cyl marine engine that could be had!

This boat is very clean soild the out drive was placed about two years ago i was told it was garage kept the last year the people had it did not use it and my guess the did not winterize it. There was water in the oil the heads look good, the exhaust manifold looks good the only thing that i could see is about 3in crack below the alt.
To the with the 181 how much and how do get a hold of you?
 
Have to check and see what heads and cam soft plugs . Since it's a 77 might want to look for something newer to repower as the out drive and intermediate housing might be next to go.
 
Yes and No. Mercruisers are basically the same exact thing as a GM engine. However, marine engines are "said" to be built differenlty to take the higher, longer sustained RPM's. They are also supposedly equiped with brass freeze plugs and other things that are different than regular GM auto engines.
For example, a Mercruiser 350, V8 can be swapped with a GM, 350 V8 - short block - but it must be marine grade - not auto grade.
Don't forget, short blocks don't come with the heads, and require you or a mechanic to install the heads. You'r better off getting a factory rebuilt Long block if you're going to do the swap. Not that much more money and well worth it. Plus they should come with a warranty.
